Global logistics company Mainfreight, a New Zealand domiciled and NZX-listed Company, has announced plans to open its first Thailand office for its Air & Ocean global network during the New Zealand Prime Minister's official visit to Thailand this week. Mainfreight CEO and Managing Director, Don Braid, said the company has responded to requests from a number of its multi-national customers urging a presence in the region.

The Bangkok-headquartered business of Mainfreight Thailand will initially service Mainfreight's Air & Ocean network, which provides international logistics for customers from around the world. Nine Thai nationals have been employed and will be led by national manager, Withanya (Mo) Ceetantivech.  "We expect to double the size of this office during our first twelve months and to handle in excess of 3000 shipments during its first year," says Mr Braid. According to Braid, Thailand is a natural choice for its initial expansion into the ASEAN region.

Thailand is perfectly positioned to provide intra-Asia trade growth, as well as facilitating existing trade within the Mainfreight network. We see Thailand as a leading economy in the 2015 ASEAN Economic Community. Mainfreight expects to increase its level of investment in resources and infrastructure over time to meet the demands of its logistics customers in the region.

Karen Campbell, New Zealand's Trade Commissioner to Thailand, saids it's good to see New Zealand companies investing into the region. "New Zealand companies are deepening their relationships in Thailand, and this is a great example of the commitment New Zealand businesses show to the market."

"We are excited to be established in Thailand," says Mr Braid. "The local knowledge of our Thai team, supported by our global experience and network, will provide full supply chain solutions for importers and exporters looking to trade in Europe, USA, China, Australia and of course, New Zealand."

Over the last 12 years, Mainfreight has been growing its Air & Ocean network in Asia, with its offices and operations located in Hong Kong, Taiwan, Singapore and throughout China.
