 PM asks former ASEAN chi

The premier asked as Mr Surin paid a courtesy call to her to report on his work during his five-year term as ASEAN chief.
Mr Surin's term as Secretary-General of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) came to a close on December 31. Vietnamese diplomat Le Luong Minh assumed the post early this month to replace Mr Surin.
The former ASEAN chief told the premier of his experience in working with ASEAN member countries and advised her that all parties in Thailand should work together to move the country forward the ASEAN Community.
Most important, Mr Surin said, is the development of education and language skills among Thai people.
Ms Yingluck praised Mr Surin for his contribution to the country.
She said, although Mr Surin's term as ASEAN chief has ended, he can continue his work to help Thailand ready for the establishment of the ASEAN Community by the end of 2015.
The ASEAN Community is comprised of three pillars, the ASEAN Political-Security Community, the ASEAN Economic Community and the ASEAN Socio-Cultural Community.
