The official logo of the ASEAN Regional Forum Disaster Relief Exercises 2015 (ARF DIREX 2015) was launched in Nay Pyi Taw today.
Launched by Malaysian Foreign Minister Dato Sri Anifah Aman, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi, and Myanmar Foreign Minister as well as Chair of the ARF U Wunna Maung Lwin, the event recognises that collective effort is needed to ensure a timely and effective disaster relief response, and to support the vision to create a disaster resilient and safer community by 2015.
“Natural disasters have disproportionate impacts on human development in the region. We cannot stop natural disasters, but we can arm ourselves with the knowledge and the skills on how to deal with them,” said Dato Sri Anifah Aman.
Agreeing with his Malaysian counterpart, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi noted that “East Asia has been frequently hit by natural disasters in recent years... China is ready to make a concerted effort with Malaysia and all ARF members to make DiRex 2015 a successful event,” said Mr Wang.
Malaysia and China will co-host the exercise which will be held in Kedah, Malaysia. The exercise is a biennial event, which will see the participation by all 27 ARF partners.
